Sedation Dentistry in Saginaw

Put Your Fears to Rest

If you’re one of many Saginaw residents suffering from dental anxiety or fear of the dentist, and you’ve been avoiding scheduling an appointment like the plague, we want you to know we’re here for you. We understand your fears and promise to address each and every concern you have. Our dentist in Saginaw, Dr. Robinson along with our dental team are some of the kindest and gentlest folks, and we offer relaxing sedation dentistry to help you get the care you need, comfortably.

Am I a candidate for sedation?

There are many reasons patients avoid the dentist, any of which is reason enough to consider sedation. If you’ve been avoiding the dentist for years, or your whole life, you probably know that you’re not doing yourself any favors. In fact, if you hate going to the dentist, that’s all the more reason to see us regularly for routine exams and cleanings.

Neglecting your oral health and avoiding the dentist will only lead to more painful, more costly problems down the road. We are happy to offer sedation for routine appointments, as well as more complex treatments to help us complete all your dental work while you are comfortable, in a single visit so you don’t have to come back to finish treatment.

Have you been avoiding the dentist?

There are many reasons patients avoid or fear the dentist, or have trouble receiving care, including:

  • General fear or anxiety
  • Fear of dental tools, sounds, smells
  • Fear of pain, blood or needles
  • Bad gag reflex
  • TMJ or jaw pain
  • Trouble sitting still
  • Embarrassment of oral health
  • Uncomfortable with personal space
  • Physical disability
  • Overactive tongue

How does sedation work?

There are many types and levels of sedation available to suit your individual needs and preferences. At Blue Sky Smiles, we offer both nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation to help take the edge off any appointment.

Nitrous oxide comes in the form of a gas that you inhale through a small face mask at the start of your appointment. This is the lightest form of sedation and is an ideal solution for patients with mild to moderate dental anxiety. The effects will wear off quickly after you’re finished and you will be able to drive yourself home safely.

We also offer oral conscious sedation, which comes in the form of a prescription sedative that Dr. Robinson will prescribe and you can pick up at your local pharmacy. You will take the sedative about an hour before your appointment to help you relax. Oral sedation is heavier than nitrous and is ideal for patients with moderate fear. You will need to arrange for transportation to and from your appointment.

Sedation is not the same as general anesthetic and is not designed to put you all the way under. Sedation is designed to put you in a waking dream-like state where you won’t recall the details of your visit and it will be over before you know it, but you will remain generally able to respond to the doctor throughout.

“Just got out of your office and I can’t say enough about how awesome you and your staff are. Dr. Robinson, you and your staff made me feel so comfortable and at ease that I will forever be grateful and recommend you to anyone I know. Thank you to you and your staff again for helping me feel at ease. You have a forever new patient in me.” – Gina
